Synthesis of Dibenzo[c,e]oxepin‐5(7H)‐ones from Benzyl Thioethers and Carboxylic Acids: Rhodium‐Catalyzed Double C?H Activation Controlled by Different Directing Groups

A rhodium(III)‐catalyzed cross‐coupling of benzyl thioethers and aryl carboxylic acids through the two directing groups is reported. Useful structures with diverse substituents were efficiently synthesized in one step with the cleavage of four bonds (C H, C S, O H) and the formation of two bonds (C C, C O). The formed structure is the privileged core in natural products and bioactive molecules. This work highlights the power of using two different directing groups to enhance the selectivity of a double C H activation, the first of such examples in cross‐oxidative coupling.     

The Periods of States for Markov Chains in a Random Environment

The periods of states for Markov chains in a random environment are introduced and some properties about periods are investigated. An open problem (Orey, 1991; Problem 1.3.3) is studied under the assumption that states have periods.     

Simultaneous measurement of SO2 and NO2 concentration using an optical fiber-based LP-DOAS system

SO2 and NO2 are the most important pollution in atmosphere.An optimized long path(LP)differential optical absorption spectroscopy(DOAS)system of high light intensity at an ultraviolet(UV)wavelength is proposed and used to measure the concentration of SO2 and NO2 simultaneously.In contrast to the traditional DOAS,the system adopted a Y-type optical fiber structure instead of a combination of mirrors in the telescope.The UV light intensity test shows that the light intensity of UV can arrive to above 80% of the max measuring range when the light path reaches 135 m,and the integral time of the spectrograph is only 15 ms.The system is proved to be efficacious through laboratory calibration.The maximum error of SO2 calibration is 4.19%,and is 5.22% for NO2.The error of the SO2 and NO2 mixture calibration is within 10%.Field measurement is implemented in a wastewater treatment plant in winter.The measurement light path is 738 m.The concentration of SO2 varies from 6μg/m^3(2.26 ppb)to 20μg/m^3(7.52 ppb),and the concentration of NO2varies from 100μg/m^3(53.2 ppb)to 200μg/m^3(106.4 ppb)approximately.The results are in accordance with the data from a monitoring station nearby in magnitude order and variation tendency mostly.

Feasibility study on buoyancy–weight ratios of a submerged floating tunnel prototype subjected to hydrodynamic loads

The research progress of a novel traffic solution,a submerged floating tunnel(SFT),is reviewed in terms of a study approach and loading scenario.Among existing publications,the buoyancy-weight ratio(BWR) is usually predefined.However,BWR is a critical structural parameter that tremendously affects the dynamic behaviour of not only the tunnel tube itself but also the cable system.In the context of a SFT prototype(SFTP) project in Qiandao Lake(Zhejiang Province,China),the importance of BWR is illustrated by finite element analysis and subsequently,an optimized BWR is proposed within a reasonable range in the present study.In the numerical model,structural damping is identified to be of importance.Rayleigh damping and the corresponding Rayleigh coefficients are attained through a sensitivity study,which shows that the adopted damping ratios are fairly suitable for SFTP.Lastly,the human sense of security is considered by quantifying the comfort index,which helps further optimize BWR in the SFTP structural parameter design.     

Characteristics of black carbon aerosol in Jiaxing,China during autumn 2013

We conducted measurements of black carbon（BC） aerosol in Jiaxing,China during autumn from September 26 to November 30,2013.We investigated temporal and diurnal variations of BC,and its correlations with meteorological parameters and other major pollutants.Results showed that hourly mass concentrations of BC ranged from 0.2 to 22.0 μg/m³,with an average of 5.1 μg/m³.The diurnai variation of BC exhibited a bimodal distribution,with peaks at 07:00 and 18:00.The morning peak was larger than the evening peak.The mass percentages of BC in PM_2.5 and PM₁₀ were 7.1%and 4.8%,respectively.The absorption coefficient of BC was calculated to be 44.4 Mm^-1,which accounted for 11.1%of the total aerosol extinction.BC was mainly emitted from local sources in southwestern Jiaxing where BC concentrations were generally greater than 11 μg/m³ during the measurement period.Correlation analysis indicated that the main sources of BC were motor vehicle exhaust,and domestic and industrial combustion.
